AI in Test Automation: What Actually Makes Sense (and What Doesn't)

AI is now embedded in many software development workflows, including testing. But where does it really help in practice? Vaibhav Chavan shares an insightful overview.

Moreover, Artur Burov describes in detail an example of AI-Assisted Test Automation: Real-World Experience with Playwright Agents and GitHub Copilot.

    Welcome to the 275th issue!

The extensive Software Testing and Quality Report (4th Edition) from TestRail is out.

Among many insights, I found these to be the most interesting:

    • AI: ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot are the most popular solutions, but surprisingly, the adoption of AI is mixed, with most responders claiming that AI has had minimal impact on their role.
    • Tools: Selenium is still the most widely used test automation tool (39%), followed by Playwright (19%) and Cypress (16%).
    • Priority: The top priorities of testers are increasing test coverage, preventing bugs, and test automation. But more interestingly, including more stakeholders in the testing process is the lowest priority.

You can also read two write-ups here and here.

    Happy testing! 🙂

    Welcome to the 259th issue!

Three weeks ago, I highlighted what testers think about AI.

Today, I want to share with you more insights about the adoption of AI in testing:

    • How many of you use GitHub Copilot?
    • Any idea how to implement AI in regression testing?

I also liked Bas Dijkstra's approach to setting his own Terms and conditions for using AI.

    Happy testing! 🙂

    Welcome to the 251st issue!

In case you missed it — GitHub Copilot is free!

The free version works with Visual Studio Code and includes 2000 code completions and 50 chat messages per month.

And if you want to learn how to take advantage of that in testing — I've featured a few articles about it.

    Happy holidays! 🎄
